Our commitment to sustainable health care

We understand that climate change is the biggest threat to our health in the 21st century. As extreme weather events become more common, now more than ever we are aware that we need to act quickly to reduce global warming and protect planetary health. Cairns Hand Clinic has partnered with Climate and Allied Health Alliance (CAHA) for collective action on climate change. In doing so we have joined the Australian Health Care community to reach the target net zero carbon emissions by 2035. When you visit our practice you may notice the following measures we have put into place to help us to achieve this goal –

  • Use of renewable energy (solar) to power our office and therapy equipment
  • Green building design such as block out blinds on our windows
  • Energy efficiency measures such as turning off lights when not in use
  • Waste minimisation strategies such as multi-use rather than single use instruments
  • Partnering with local & green suppliers to source recycled products such as our disposable paper hand towels
  • Recycling program including separation of compost, soft plastics, mixed recycling and landfill waste streams
  • Free-Cycle program to our patients – we clean, repair and reuse high quality therapy equipment for patients at no / low cost
  • Strategies to support staff to ride & walk to work

Our green initiatives have been recognised by Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) and in 2022 we were awarded Star Partners with the ecoBiz program. This was a wonderful opportunity to identify opportunities to broaden the scope of our environmental efforts in the future and generated momentum to help us to continue to work towards net zero by 2035.

We look forward to partnering with you to support your hand therapy needs and offer you science based, environmentally responsible health care solutions.
